“Challenge everything” says leading accountant

Leading Hospitality Industry accountants, Volensis, are advising clients to “challenge everything” as they enter what is likely to be another tough year for the trade.

Odette Gibson who heads-up the firm, said: “People will make lots of promises to themselves this New year, but forget the gym, get your business fit. We’re encouraging, rather than telling, all of our clients to get their businesses fitter as we enter 2013, a year which I believe will continue to be a testing time for licensees and business owners. We’re asking them to start by reviewing the following:

Professional Fees – Yes, accountants, lawyers etc. Make sure you’re getting value and they are working hard for you.

Utilities – Are you on the best deals for your business?

Suppliers – Have your costs crept up? Could you get products cheaper elsewhere? Can you renegotiate deals with existing suppliers?

Odette added: “Also, take the time to ask yourself – how does your business stack-up against competitors? Go and look at them and ask yourself, which venue would you choose? When you have done that, you can take an objective look at your own business asking yourself what improvements need to be made, what investment is required to grow trade?
